Pertussis (whooping cough)

What is Pertussis?
Pertussis is an immensely contagious disease that is caused by the Bordetella bacteria. The Bordetella bacteria is a Gram-negative aerobic coccobacillus. The pertussis virus is transmitted when an infected person coughs or sneezes next to another person. When the person inhales the disease then they are infected too. It takes from 7 days to up to six weeks to start developing the symptoms of the pertussis virus. Some examples of symptoms are: mild cough, fever, and also severe coughing. The pertussis virus can be treated with antibiotics. If diagnosed with the pertussis virus, it is most recommended that the person goes to get early treatment. By doing this the person is in less risk of the disease getting more severe. for infants, the pertussis virus far more dangerous for them. When an infant is treated for pertussis there can be many complications.Complications can be for example, pneumonia, apnea, convulsions, and also encaphalopathy. Sadly, 1 and 2 out of 100 infants die to do the pertussis virus. Complications with teens and adults are foe example weight loss,loss of bladder control, passing out, and lastly, rib fractures from severe coughing.
